Dear Multiverse
ANY question will be answered. We care.

At this moment, the piemaker has found himself back in the multiversal Nexus, a feat rather troubling to him as he meant to make his way to the storage room of the Pie Hole. Ah, well, such is life. He finds his way over to one of the famous Nexus chairs and takes a seat. It seems he's already got a question on his mind.

"Superheros," Ned says simply. "If you were a superhero with some crazy power - or maybe not, because Batman didn't really have any powers - or maybe he did, I never really read comics that much - but anyway. If you were a superhero, would you make that fact known? Or would you do the whole, normal-by-day, saving-the-world-by night kinda thing?"

"Really?" Ned leans forward slightly. "I mean yeah, that's what most of them do, isn't it? So I guess it makes sense."

He considers, and then nods his head slightly. "Yeah. I guess. But I mean, it would just get really difficult. Like you said, tiring. And one little slip could mess all of that up, and... yeah."

"This is true." Ned laughs. "But, I guess that's harder for some people."

And then he smiles. Candy! Yay! "Sure!" And he happily takes one.

"Hmmn," Jo says, a finger to her lips in thought. "Well, I suppose that if I were to be a superhero with powers, like Batman, I might aim for some middle ground between the two. That is to say, I wouldn't hide the fact, but I wouldn't go around flaunting it, either."

And besides, usually the world needs just as much (if not more) saving during the day than at night. Jo knows about this stuff, you see.

Ned blinks. "But - I thought - Barman didn't really have powers, did he? I mean, yeah, he was awesome, but being awesome and badass doesn't really count as a power like, I dunno, telekinesis does, right?"

Way to miss the entire point there, Ned, darling.

But he realizes his rambling and clears his throat. "But yeah. I kinda think that's best, too."

She shrugs. "I couldn't say that I've exactly seen very much Batman to know, but I would say that somebody who manages to save the world with only cleverness and gadgets is much better than somebody who uses psychic powers."

Why no, she's not talking about personal experiences. No. Why would you even think that? 'Course she isn't.
19th-Apr-2009 06:16 am (UTC)
"Well, yeah, obviously!" Ned chuckles. "People who have psychic powers have an unfair advantage." But then he stops because - oh yeah, guess who has an unfair advantage? Of sorts.

"Yes, they most certainly do," Jo says, looking off. After a moment, she turns back to Ned. "Sorry, what was it we were discussing?"
19th-Apr-2009 05:47 am (UTC)
"I'm no superhero, but I already live that sort of dual life. I see little point in changing it. From my perspective, it's benefits eclipse any that might be gained from exposing your true nature."
19th-Apr-2009 06:12 am (UTC)
Ned's brow furrows slightly. "But, I mean, isn't that harder? From, like, just completely being yourself. All the way."

Ned's not having any of this trouble. What are you talking about?

Myra gives a sly smile.

"And what if I equally identify with both identities? Culturally they conflict in far too many ways to coexist, so instead I've essentially split them into two. I personally have no trouble keeping them separate from each other and rather enjoy being able to escape from one life or the other." Myra leans back in her seat slightly. "I've never understood how people can claim to be so one-dimensional; they're always hiding a second them, the persona that comes out only in private."

I do have powers, but I didn't become a superhero. Only my friends and some of my team's clients know what I can do. Though my team did save the world once.
19th-Apr-2009 06:14 am (UTC)
"So you kinda do hide it, but at the same time, you don't" Ned's head inclines in curiosity. "I mean, you said your friends and some clients know, so...?"

I read minds and can move really fast, while my partner sees the future. We hire ourselves out, though only our favorite and more constant clients know that we have more to us than just gun, surveillance, and security skills.

We saved the world for free, though, because it helped us get our independence from the people who trained and enslaved us.

"If I was a superhero," says the exquisitely dressed Kate Kane, "I wouldn't tell anyone."

"Provided it wouldn't get me or my family killed, sterilized or imprisoned, or otherwise sanctioned, I'd do it out in the open. More realistically, I'd assume another identity and live openly under it, if that makes any sense. Sort of like how some actors pick up stage names, you know?"

Metody smiles cheerfully at the guy. He's tiny, dressed in a really awful Hawaiian shirt, and surrounded by three foot high plush frogs that hope and leap around him. So...basically standard for the Nexus, except for the lack of a giant robot on or near his person.

It takes the same amount of time to rattle a bottle of tic-tacs empty into his mouth as it does to give his answer. The mints crunch noisily between thoughts, with that mighty jaw smashing it all into smithereens. "I'd probably be stupidly selfish about it. Drop all my family and friends like hot potatoes and live as a hermit, perfecting my powers, and saving the world behind a mask. Living a double life only makes things more difficult for everyone."

He sounds as if he might know a thing or two about that.

"I think I'd kill myself."
