There's a Harkness in the Nexus looking a little worse for wear, like he's running on little sleep and there's not enough blood in his caffeine stream. His hair is ruffled, trademark blue button down wrinkled and worn in smashing combo with holey jeans, without a trouser brace in sight. He collapses onto a nearby couch and stares blearily at his watch.

"Protips on how to deal with broken bones?" he asks, head tilted against the back of the couch and eyes briefly closed. "Or, specifically, how to help someone who's not really dealing well with having a broken bone?"

Rest, light but nourishing food, be sure to keep the muscles active, and watch for infection. When that sets into a bone, it's never good news.

Pretty decent healthcare, so I'm not worried about infection or anything. I guess it's more ... well, what do you do for the rotten mood a person can get in if they're unwell?
27th-Jun-2009 03:21 am (UTC)
It looks like you need something to occupy your mind.
27th-Jun-2009 03:25 am (UTC)
"Not mine," Jack answers with a grin. "My partner, actually. He could probably use something, but I think he's upset that he's not going to be as active as he was until he's healed up. Got any suggestions?"
27th-Jun-2009 03:27 am (UTC)
"Distract him with sex?" She smirks, and then shrugs. "Or find a book, or a board game. Not chess, though. I'd hate to play chess with the distraction of a broken leg."

Ianto tends to have a cup of coffee in hand when wandering the Nexus and well, this Jack looks like he could use it. So with quiet footsteps he approaches and offers the travel mug up, "Coffee, sir?"

Whether Jack takes the cup or not, Ianto settles at the other end of the couch. "Following the Doctor's instructions would be a good first step, unless you find something here that can speed heal the bones."
27th-Jun-2009 03:34 am (UTC)
Jack opens one eye and gives this rather interesting Ianto a wary look. "No, thanks." It doesn't seem fair to drink coffee while his Ianto has to cut back.

"Know anything that helps speed things up? I'm kind of suspicious of most Nexus stuff, to be honest."
27th-Jun-2009 03:41 am (UTC)
Ianto arches an eyebrow, but takes the mug back. "If you're sure."

"I'm afraid not," Ianto shakes his head. "I've been lucky enough not to break anything." His Jack might have something tucked away in the archives, but Ianto isn't about to offer that to this other Jack.

Apply treats and distractions. If those don't help, resort to drugs or knocking him out.
27th-Jun-2009 04:08 am (UTC)
Jack laughs. "Tried treats and distractions. I don't think I'm morally ambiguous enough to resort to drugs, honestly."
27th-Jun-2009 04:03 am (UTC)
Jim Kirk is nearby, feet up on a coffee table, ticking reasons off on his fingers in response. "Remind them that splintering breaks due to too much activity before it's healed will take longer to recover, painkillers, video games, blowjobs."
27th-Jun-2009 04:11 am (UTC)
Is Jack slightly distracted by Sexy Jim? Slightly. He raises both eyebrows at the list. "He wouldn't listen, he can only have one painkiller every six hours, we're apparently video game poor, and he's just not that into sex." Yeah, his ego's bruised, wanna fight about it?
27th-Jun-2009 04:16 am (UTC)
Jim's used to being a distraction - in fact, he rather likes it that way. (And yes, peanut gallery, somewhere there are ominous thunderclaps heralding this exchange and the Doctor has a headache and Spock just twitched and neither of them are sure why.) He raises his eyebrows at that, sympathetic.

"That sucks." About the sex part, anyway. "Well, some people just have to learn the hard way." Voice of experience?

Hey it's a Jack! John's on his everpresent couch with, yes, that's a sack of flour in a baby's bonnet on next to him...

Don't ask...

"Hey what the Hell happened to you?" He raises an eyebrow, not that he doesn't look hot...because Jack always looks good.

"Broken bones?" He takes his time looking Jack over. "I assume we're not in the 51st century, in which case...make sure the dumbarse doesn't get up if it's a broken leg and no shagging if it's broken ribs."

And that's about the limit of Captain John's first aid knowledge...
27th-Jun-2009 02:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, okay. Seeing John Hart with anything vaguely baby-related makes Jack kind of throw up in his mouth a little. No offense, John, but the alternate from Jack's universe isn't the baby type. At all. Not even in the washed up has been rocker settling down with an inexplicable wife and kids way.

"Not enough beauty sleep," he deadpans, kicking his feet up and yawning. "Uh, no. We're not in the 51st century." That's a little ridiculous, but Jack doesn't say anything. He's still a little weirded out by his alternates and their colleagues in the Nexus. "It's a broken leg, but he's practically got a cast up to his armpit and he's pissed about it."
27th-Jun-2009 10:04 am (UTC)
Hm, such a handsome man. She will ignore that for now, since lately handsome men have been extremely rude to her. We will see though.

"Broken bones? Did you take the person to the doctor? Or get some kind of pain medication for him? Also, I find television works when I'm in pain, but..I've never had a broken bone. So, I'm not really sure how much it hurts." She will cross her skirted legs with a smile. That helped..right? She hopes so anyways.
27th-Jun-2009 02:53 pm (UTC)
He is rather handsome, yes. And she's pretty good looking, herself.

"Doctor, cast, pain meds. The works, yeah." He frowns a little, but it's thoughtfully. "I've broken something before. It kind of goes numbs at first, but hurts like hell after the bone's been set. It's just hard getting him interested in stuff like television, I guess. He's getting into a funk, probably because he can't be as active as he usually is."
27th-Jun-2009 02:44 pm (UTC)
A young woman in a nurse's uniform offers Jack a friendly smile before blinking and toning it down to something less familiar. This Jack doesn't seem to be the one she knows. "I'm assuming this broken bone is impairing your friend's mobility?"
27th-Jun-2009 02:55 pm (UTC)
Hey, Jack gives her a friendly smile, nevertheless. They haven't met, but he's just that sort of guy. "Definitely. I dunno why they insisted on putting the cast up to his armpit, but it's making it difficult for him to move around."
27th-Jun-2009 03:15 pm (UTC)
"Probably to prevent him from moving around," she replies wryly. "He could make things worse if he tries to do too much. Which bones were broken, exactly?"
27th-Jun-2009 02:59 pm (UTC)

For his part, Ianto thinks that the Nexus is sort of a piss poor place to be asking advice, but that isn't part of the question, so he keeps that sort of commentary to himself. He's just passing through, but ... to be frank, he never can resist a Jack. (Well. Most of the time, anyway.) At least Ianto's not going to throw off this decidedly casual Jack too much, since he's wearing jeans and a (baggy) t-shirt.

"Speaking as someone who doesn't deal well with broken bones," he informs Jack, "I suggest you do something to make him feel ... well, useful. Of course, that's largely dependent on which bone is broken."

27th-Jun-2009 03:05 pm (UTC)
Hey. Jack doesn't think the Nexus is the best place to ask for advice, either, but he's sort of desperate, here. And, being honest, if he went to, say, Gwen with this, she would pull some doe eyes on him and call his Ianto a 'poor lamb' and then it would get out that they're seeing each other and ... yeah, it'd be a mess.

"You've had this problem?" A Ianto -- any Ianto -- who's dealt with a broken bone before is an automatic plus in his book. "Yeah, I get the feeling he's going to go a little crazy, if he can't do something for himself or doesn't feel useful. It's his leg and they've put him in a ridiculous cast -- " Jack motions all the way up his own leg. " -- so he can't get around that easily."
27th-Jun-2009 03:15 pm (UTC)

Ianto takes in this information with a sympathetic nodding, then moves to perch on the arm of a nearby chair. "Not a leg, but a collarbone. Trust me, it's a lot more difficult to avoid accidentally using a bum arm than a leg." At least there's something they can do to set a leg. Ianto isn't going to bother counting that time his wrist was neatly snapped, given that it had been fixed in a matter of moments. Or his jaw, which was much the same story. Oh, come to think of it, he really does hold the ridiculous Torchwood record for most broken bones (survived), doesn't he?

"He might be resistant to the idea at first, but have you considered a wheelchair?"

27th-Jun-2009 04:29 pm (UTC)

This could prove to be awkward, but ... well, it is what it is, James supposes. It's not like they've been completely incommunicado, at least; he still likes to send the occasional e-mail, or picture message from his mobile, showing wherever he happens to be this week or another.

"I think it depends on the person," he answers, though James isn't having an especially hard time guessing who the person is.

27th-Jun-2009 04:33 pm (UTC)
It is a little awkward, actually, and Jack's smile lessens by a few degrees when he realizes it's James. His James. There aren't too many running around, so this has to be his ... well, not his anymore, but ... this is complicated.

"Yeah, I guess so," Jack answers simply, thinking it might be best to let that suffice for an answer. He looks a little too embarrassed to be allowed, like being caught with his pants down. (And he usually likes that sort of thing.) "Long time no see, stranger. How've you been?"
