Don't ask where Ryan's found himself a skateboard - he has the tendency to be everywhere at once, and in a place like the Nexus, you can find almost anything. And don't ask how often he's fallen down - the rips in the knees of his jeans should give testament to that.

"So, I've been readin'," he says, slowly skateboarding in circles that get wider and wider. "And there was this thing that was talkin' about pessimism and optimism and realism and all that. It didn't make a lotta sense, but I kinda got the gist of it."

He eyes a nearby curb that seems to be unattached to anything and starts skating towards it. "So, are you an optimist," he begins, eyes narrowing in concentration. "A pessimist..." He hits the curb, tries to skate along it and fails miserably, wiping out rather impressively on the ground.

"...or a realist?"
6th-Nov-2009 02:58 am (UTC)
"Optimist, definitely. To the point where Victor wonders if I'm going to get myself killed over it."
6th-Nov-2009 04:22 am (UTC)
Ryan sits up, rubbing his head. "Who's that?"
6th-Nov-2009 04:32 am (UTC)
"The team leader at the moment. Good fellow, and puts on a good show of being very gruff...but he worries for the ones he cares about, and that's how he shows it."
6th-Nov-2009 05:50 am (UTC)
"Ohhh...what sorta team are y'on?"
6th-Nov-2009 03:59 am (UTC)
Walking by, Lara catches the question and the boy's rather spectacular fall. She smiles and approaches, offering him a hand. She sounds amused, the expression on her face shows that she is giving the question actual thought. "A realist, always."
6th-Nov-2009 04:24 am (UTC)
Ryan hesitates a bit at the outstretched hand, then takes it, his own covered in oversized gloves. "That sounds like th'best option t'me."
6th-Nov-2009 04:55 am (UTC)
"It's hard to be disappointed or surprised when your expectations are real," Lara says when Ryan is back on his feet. It might have been surprising that helping a growing boy back to his feet seemed to take no effort, but it was the Nexus. Supernatural strength seemed the norm here.

She offers him a smile, kind and mild. "Didn't hurt yourself, I hope?"
6th-Nov-2009 05:51 am (UTC)
"I suppose so." He's small for his age, wiry somewhere under the way-too-big sweater and jeans he's wearing. He preoccupies himself with brushing dust off the torn fabric and sighing a bit at his bloodied knees. "Nah, I'm all right.
6th-Nov-2009 05:30 am (UTC)
"I'm an optimist. I am genetically predisposed to it." She watches him skate around. "Nice board."
6th-Nov-2009 05:52 am (UTC)
"Genetically?" he repeats, blinking a few times. "I didn't know that was possible."

Then he brightens, nodding. "It's cool, huh?"
6th-Nov-2009 05:59 am (UTC)
"Very cool. Had it long?" Then she answers the question. "My mother's family is known for being very lucky. Things just kind of... work out for them. I ended up with the trait, too."
6th-Nov-2009 06:31 am (UTC)
"Eh, bout five minutes, give or take." He frowns over this and consequently loses his balance, sprawling on the floor. "That's pretty cool. I mean, it must come in handy."

Realist. I've seen too much to be an optimist but pessimism is just too negative for me.
6th-Nov-2009 06:48 pm (UTC)
I think I am too...
7th-Nov-2009 02:20 am (UTC)
I think good things can come and accept them when they come, but I don't rely on them. For me, that makes the difference.
6th-Nov-2009 08:20 am (UTC)
The other kid on the skateboard ponders the question. "Realist."
6th-Nov-2009 06:49 pm (UTC)
Ryan is totally not jealous of this other kid's balance. "Me too."
6th-Nov-2009 07:34 pm (UTC)
"Ya gotta be, in this world."
6th-Nov-2009 07:46 pm (UTC)
"Besides, optimists are kinda annoyin'."
6th-Nov-2009 09:12 pm (UTC)
-I'm told I'm a dork.- Aidla skitters away from the wipeout, all four of her eyes wide with giddy skittishness. -But life's a... word I'm not allowed to say.-
6th-Nov-2009 09:22 pm (UTC)
Ryan blinks curiously up at her, knees a bit bloody from the fall. "Which word? I know all the words, so it's all right."
6th-Nov-2009 09:39 pm (UTC)
-So does my boss, and he's probably listening to me.- She lashes her blade tipped tail and carefully steps on a dropped potato chip. -But it's something like beach and means a dog!-
6th-Nov-2009 09:54 pm (UTC)
Ryan nods knowingly. "Ohhhh, I know that one." Then, after a moment, "Who're you?"
7th-Nov-2009 05:00 am (UTC)
"I would call myself a realist, but I admit that those around me often consider my views pessimistic."
7th-Nov-2009 05:32 am (UTC)
Ryan shrugs a bit, examining his newly-bloodied knee. "Maybe the world is just a depressing place, and being pessimistic is realistic."
