Somewhat Annoyed Dee-Lorean

don't mess with me, serious dee
What looks like a little six-year-old girl slinks into the Nexus, frowning in a slightly sulky way. She makes her way to the most comfortable-looking armchair, tests the cushion, then plonks herself down in it, arms folded. She regards the Nexus critically for a moment. "I'm actually a car -- I can just turn into this," she announces. "And I need repairs, but Dad's being weird about actually making them. He put new tires on fine, but when he starts getting down into the wiring and stuff. . . ." She sighs. "How do I stop him being weird about fixing me? I've told him a bunch of times it don't hurt!"

Clark's not in the greatest of mental states, after his death-resurrection-and-addiction jag, but he's getting better and he feels okay being in the Nexus again. And of course he has to smile a little when he recognizes the girl. "Humans can be kind of funny when it comes to the bits inside people."
1st-Feb-2011 02:38 am (UTC)
"Clark! Hi!" Dee grins up at him. "Yeah, I guess, but I'm always in car form when Daddy tries to fix me. Shouldn't he be used to that sort of thing?"
1st-Feb-2011 02:41 am (UTC)
"Hey, Dee." His smile broadens a little, for her, though he's not feeling entirely happy at the moment. He pretends for the sake of the kid, though.

"You'd think so, but he hasn't worked on a living car before. At least not as far as I know. It's different when you know the car is watching you and feeling everything you do, probably."
1st-Feb-2011 02:50 am (UTC)
"Not as far as I know either," Dee nods. She frowns. "But I told him it doesn't hurt. . .I dunno if I really even feel when I'm like the car." The scientific method must be applied to this. "I dunno what to do. I don't wanna be broken forever." She doesn't like it in the least.
1st-Feb-2011 02:59 am (UTC)
"It's not pain that I'd be worried about, if it was me." He's not quite sure how to explain it, especially to a child. "It's more like an invasion of privacy. Even though you want him to fix you, it still might feel like he's doing something wrong by treating you like an ordinary car, or-" He stops abruptly as it occurs to him that Doc might be extra skeeved out because of his own mechanical parts, and it might remind him of being forced into that state. "Oh."
1st-Feb-2011 03:08 am (UTC)
Clark's actually hit the nail right on the head -- if Doc was here, he'd admit that, whenever he tries to work on Dee, all he can think about is his own time on the operating table, and he feels like he's turning into Andrew. As it is, Dee frowns even harder. "But I told him it was okay," she says softly. "I don't mean to make him feel weird." She tilts her head, now worried. "What's 'oh?'"
1st-Feb-2011 03:15 am (UTC)
"Sometimes... even when you tell people things, they might want to believe you, but it doesn't mean that they do. And it isn't that they don't trust you, or they think you're lying, they just can't." He's speaking from so much personal experience here, it isn't even funny.

Clark definitely does not want to tell the child-car the horrific origins of her father's mechanical bits. "Your dad's had some... bad things happen to him before. Working on you might remind him of that, whether he wants it to or not."
1st-Feb-2011 03:20 am (UTC)
Dee stares at him. "That's --" Sorry, she's having a hard time wrapping her head around that concept. Chalk it up to being six years old and only properly human for a couple of months. "Is there anyway to -- get them to believe you? Or do you just gotta wait?"

"What? Why? Was he run over? Or--" She suddenly gets serious. "Does this have to do with him shooting steam from his elbows and knees?" She's wanted to ask about that for a while, but she's been getting the feeling it's a taboo subject around their patch of world.
1st-Feb-2011 04:08 am (UTC)
"Not sure what to tell ya," Farley says, frowning. "Might have something to do with your newfound sentience, but..." He looks at Dee for a second, wondering if he should try to explain Doc's faerie-induced PTSD.
1st-Feb-2011 06:41 pm (UTC)
"I've told him bunches of times it's okay," Dee says, frowning back up at Farley. "I know it's probably weird, but I don't talk or anything when I'm the car." She'd probably like something of an explanation, but she is also six. . . .
2nd-Feb-2011 01:12 am (UTC)
"Maybe, but now that you're alive, he might be thinking of it like replacing someone's veins or nervous system, and for all he knows, screwing up might affect your human body." Farley shrugs - what can you do? "It doesn't help that, well... you know all those gears and vents in his body?"
2nd-Feb-2011 01:15 am (UTC)
Dee blinks. She never really considered that before. "But -- me being all beat up as a car doesn't affect me like this," she points out. "I can run around and eat and all that human stuff. And I really want my car form fixed up." She frowns as he mentions those. "Yeah. I wanted to ask him more about those, but he -- it was something bad, wasn't it?" she says in a lower voice. "Marty and Victor and Alice don't want to talk about it either."
2nd-Feb-2011 01:36 am (UTC)
"Very," Farley says grimly. "Though they probably don't want you to know yet. It's horrible, worse than that alternate 1985, and you're a kid. If I told you, and this is a pretty big damn if, it would be because you understand why they don't want to talk about it and why it's such a big issue for Doc."
2nd-Feb-2011 01:38 am (UTC)
"Worse than 1985-A??" Dee was not aware this was an option. "Did Biff do that to Dad? Or Buford, or Griff?" Bless her, she still believes Tannens are the source of all evil in the world.
2nd-Feb-2011 01:47 am (UTC)
"Oh, please," Farley scoffs. "The Tannens are too stupid to do something that sadistic. They might get someone to do it for them, maybe, but they'd probably just settle for having them killed." He shrugs. "But no, it wasn't a Tannen. Or a human, for that matter."
2nd-Feb-2011 02:12 am (UTC)
"That's true," Dee admits, making a face. "They're stupidheads, all of them." She arches an eyebrow at Farley's next statement. "Not a human? What else is there?" She can't imagine it was an animal who changed Doc's biology.

Once again Prince Arthur has wandered into the Nexus and hearing the question looks at Dee somewhat confused.

"Repairs? Don't you mean healing you? Or is this some...future terminology?"
1st-Feb-2011 06:44 pm (UTC)
Being a time machine, Dee has a bit of a sense of timelines, and she can tell this guy's not from this time period. (As if the mention of "future terminology" didn't give it away.) "It's more complicated than that," Dee says, hopping up. "I'm usually like this."

And then there was a large DeLorean sitting where she was standing. It's obviously seen better days, and has a complex assembly of vacuum tubes strapped to the front hood. Arthur will probably end up staring.
2nd-Feb-2011 01:24 pm (UTC)
It's a good thing Arthur's divan happens to be hehind him right now, because he sort of...falls into it in comomplete shock.

What was this...thing?

Where had the girl gone?! What the Hell was happening?
2nd-Feb-2011 05:56 pm (UTC)
The thing honks at him, then turns back into the girl. "Uh, yeah," she says, looking at his expression. "Are you okay? I don't bite. Honest."
2nd-Feb-2011 11:04 pm (UTC) - Wow look at that spelling error!
"How...how did you do that? What sort of..." Arthur's practically tripping over his tongue, he takes a deep breath.

"Have you been cursed?"
2nd-Feb-2011 11:07 pm (UTC) - Indeedy
"Uh -- not sure how, exactly, I just sort of -- will it," Dee says, frowning thoughtfully. She's never really thought that much about her shape-changing properties before. "And not cursed, more just -- changed. I kinda like it, honestly." This is mostly because her regular form is the car, but this information will probably completely blow Arthur's mind.
3rd-Feb-2011 12:17 am (UTC)
The future is indeed a disturbing place.

"You do...? Are you still...you when you're in that...form?"
3rd-Feb-2011 12:23 am (UTC)
"Yeah!" Dee says. "It's me either way. I just look different." She tilts her head. "When are you from?" Note the phrasing, Arthur -- she gets the feeling she needs to explain stuff, and she wants to know exactly how much.
3rd-Feb-2011 12:30 am (UTC)
"Huh..." Arthur still looks greatly confuzzled.

"When? Well...the 11th century...Most people here seem to come from the 21st are you one of those?"
