In Dad's jacket skeptical
It's been a while since Clark visited the Nexus, not counting the wedding reception. Today is not quite as happy of an occasion, as indicated by his thoughtful frown.

"What's the best way to deal with an unexpected houseguest? Especially if they're family and you didn't know they existed until yesterday."

"Well. I guess hiding from them isn't really an option. That's what I'd do." Victor's relationship with her family has been significantly repaired, but she still isn't the type of person who would jump at the chance to spend more than a few hours with them. Or more than a few minutes. Really, just, basically, she still doesn't like them.

"It'd be a bit weird to hide from him when we just opened our house to him," Clark agrees. Of course, for him the family situation is somewhat opposite, since he's never had much family to speak of.

"Easy. Just use your PINpoint during hide-and-seek." An easy shrug, she adjusts her grip on her cane (this one decorated with thin silver and blue spirals on white-painted knobby wood). "You could always just embrace the awkward. They know it'll be a weird situation. You know it. Awkward isn't always bad. It's just a stage you've gotta get through."

"It doesn't really help that he didn't know I existed until yesterday either. So far as he knew, he didn't have any kids."

"Who is it, even?"

Put on another pot of tea and pretend you know what you're doing.

"I've got at least one out of two, I guess." Now he's wondering if they even had tea on Krypton. Kara seemed to like it, but she never said anything about that.
31st-Jan-2012 10:19 pm (UTC)
Which one do you have? I can help with the tea, at least.

"Pretending that I know what I'm doing," he says with a small smile. "I've got a lot of practice."

Be hospitable and friendly but cautious. Family is precious, but the circumstances make it possible that not everything is what it seems. Don't trust or offer too much yet.
1st-Feb-2012 07:59 pm (UTC)
Reasonable advice, and Clark nods. "What would you consider 'too much'?"

Sometimes people reveal a lot when trying to bond with someone, especially distant family they feel they should already have a bond with, but resist that urge. Lock away or move any objects you particularly value or might find incriminating. Otherwise, be careful about where and how long you let your new houseguest wander around unattended. It's up to you to decide if you want to let this person have a copy of house keys.

Some may think that I sound paranoid, but my team and I have had a few people from our pasts return to try to take advantage of us through our emotions.

"I've had someone try to scam me like that before, but at least this time I know he's legitimately who I think he is. But you do make some good points." Clark is a private person, and has a reasonable dose of paranoia himself, but mostly regarding strangers rather than family. Or people who he just can't trust to know that he's an alien.

It's good that you know that for sure. Still, sometimes you do have to be cautious with yourself and your feelings even among family. Sometimes especially among family. ::One of Aya's sisters caused him a lot of pain and stress, and she hadn't even meant to.::

I'm glad I could be helpful.

Adia is sitting on one of the Nexus couches, looking significantly less happy than she did at Clark's wedding. She does manage a smile for him, however, and offers, "Try to catch up as best you can? It'll give you a sense of what they're like."
2nd-Feb-2012 01:15 am (UTC)
"That's a good idea, yeah. It's a bit... weird, right now. For both of us. He didn't know I existed until yesterday either."
2nd-Feb-2012 01:22 am (UTC)
"I can imagine. Who is he?"
2nd-Feb-2012 01:26 am (UTC)
Clark rubs the back of his neck, looking a little awkward. "My birth father. Kind of. He's a clone, and his memories stop when his DNA was taken, which was long before he and my mother had me."
2nd-Feb-2012 01:47 am (UTC)
Adia looks down. Clones aren't high on her list of concepts she likes currently. "I see why you say kind of. He's like... a living memory of your father." She twists her hands in her lap. "Especially because of the memories. How did he end up on your doorstep?"

Doc can't help an amused smirk as he hears this. Yeah, he can relate, at least a little. "Well, after you get past the initial confusion, hopefully welcome them with open arms." he frowns a little. "Who is it you're dealing with?"

((OOC: I know, late response is late, but I had to get Doc in there, screwed-up comments or no.))
6th-Feb-2012 02:22 am (UTC)
Clark rubs the back of his neck. "A clone of my father."

((It's perfectly okay! :D))
6th-Feb-2012 02:59 am (UTC)
That -- gets a moment of staring. "I can't tell if that's more or less strange then what happened with me and Dee," he finally says. "Where did you find him?"
6th-Feb-2012 03:05 am (UTC)
"In Turkey, believe it or not. We're still not sure how he got there."
6th-Feb-2012 03:08 am (UTC)
"Turkey? That's --" Doc shakes his head. "Do you know why there's a clone of your father out and about?"
6th-Feb-2012 03:12 am (UTC)
"Kind of. Apparently, a long time before Krypton was destroyed, the Council ordered an experiment involving cloning Krypton's best soldiers to rebuild our civilization if the worst case scenario ever happened. They included my father for his leadership abilities. As well as Major Zod."
